Justin Fields‘ first career NFL start will come in the same state that cheered him on for the past two years.

Fields is officially getting the call for the Bears (1-1) in place of injured Andy Dalton on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns (1-1) in Cleveland, less than three hours north of Ohio State. Fields threw for 67 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 22 games from 2019-20 while leading the Buckeyes to a 20-2 record and runner-up in last season’s national championship game.

“He was pretty stoic,” Bears coach Matt Nagy said Wednesday of Fields’ reaction upon receiving the news he was starting. “He’s a guy that has a lot of confidence in himself and I think it rubs off on his teammates.”

The Browns, meanwhile, are dealing with injury issues of their own, as wide receiver Jarvis Landry landed on injured reserve earlier in the week with a sprained MCL in his knee, and quarterback Baker Mayfield is nursing a sore left shoulder. An MRI revealed no structural damage for Mayfield and he is probable to start.

Good news for the Browns, though, is receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is set to make his 2021 debut as he comes back from a torn ACL suffered last October. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Beckham will play Sunday.
