While mucormycosis isn’t a new infection, the unproportional use of steroids, prolonged ICU stays and unsanitary conditions have seemed to make recovery problems worse for COVID patients. The highest risk entails those suffering from immunocompromised issues, including uncontrolled diabetes.
Now, the most distinguishing marker of the infection continues to be facial deformity- formation of black crusts, partial paralysis, swelling, persistent headaches and in worse cases, loss of jawbone.
