Coronavirus fungal infections: Two types of mucormycosis observed in COVID-19 patients, here’s what we know | The Times of India

According to doctors, mucormycosis infection that infects the nose, eyes and brain and leads to a certain distinct facial deformity is associated with Rhino-Orbito-Cerebral Mucormycosis (ROCM). The infection begins from the nasal cavities and spreads along the sinus passage to infect the orbit, which is the bone cavity that encircles the eye, and brain.

Nasal blockage, unusual nasal discharge, facial swelling, pain and numbness are some of the initial symptoms. Over time, headache, eye pain, blurred vision and partial blindness may also be experienced.
