With days to go for the season opener between reigning champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Devdutt Padikkal- RCB opener who contracted COVID and is in quarantine – said that he hopes to score runs and help RCB win the title. “The side is looking strong. We have star players. I had huge learning (curve) last season and will aim to carry on the same show in the IPL too. Looking forward to scoring a good amount of runs and helping RCB win the title,” said Padikkal to the Times of India. Padikkal amassed 473 runs in his 15 games, made his RCB debut last year in UAE under the leadership of Kohli, and thrived during the season, helping RCB make the playoffs. He continued his good run of form in the domestic circuit as well. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he amassed 737 runs in seven games.
Padikkal is currently quarantining in his home and is expected to join the side soon. It is not clear if he would be available for the season opener against MI.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore, Left-handed Batsman Devdutt Padikkal had tested positive on 22nd March 2021. He has been in mandatory quarantine at his residence in Bengaluru since then. He will be fit to join the RCB bio-bubble once his RT-PCR tests are negative. RCB Medical team is in touch with Devdutt ensuring his safety and well-being. Devdutt is feeling well and we can’t wait to have him join the squad for the IPL season ahead,” the statement read as quoted by News18.
