Our work lives have been difficult over the past one year. And COVID-19 has marked this reality clearly– work from home is not a luxury and not something desirable in the long run. Keeping aside all the issues of work from home, Lindsay Myers, who is the general manager for Microsoft Surface Marketing, highlights three crucial device -related problems that every employee may face while working remotely. Myers believes that the new Surface Pro 7 Plus for business may provide some relief, if only your super bosses decide to upgrade your laptop.
There’s no denying that a vast number of employees in India are using Windows laptops to work remotely. No matter the device you are using to work, the three basic problems that you may be facing are– consistent Wi-Fi connectivity where you need not tell your family to stop watching their favourite movie online just so you can proceed with an important video call; assuring that enterprise data is secured irrespective of the internet connection you choose to connect and finally, the need to get a more streamlined workflow where you can easily get devices to work with no matter where you are.
“We have a person in our design team. He’s literally doing everything from a sprinter van all over the United States. It’s super cool,” says Myers. Now, working from home doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to lock yourself inside your house for months to work. The next big challenge for your boss and your company’s IT department is to provide the necessary tools so that you can work easily from wherever you want to, while respecting COVID-19 norms. It is easy to understand that staying locked up inside your house for a long period can easily lead to burn out quickly.
This is where Microsoft thinks that businesses need to rethink and empower their employees to drive productivity.
“I think we’ve talked a lot this year about workplace change really, because of the COVID situation, but I think that the reality is that for several years now, the way we’ve been working the places we work, the tools we use to work have really been evolving. And while we’ve seen massive acceleration in this last year, of course, because of the pandemic with remote work, I think that where we’re starting to come, definitely, you know, a Microsoft Point of view is that there probably is not going to be one single final destination for a single future of work vision. I really believe that instead every business from the largest to the smallest is going to need to continuously adapt and evolve,” feels Myers.
In order to accomodate this mindset, Myers talked about the important step Microsoft has taken to enhance its portfolio of devices with Surface Pro 7 Plus for business. Myers talks about the three things that businesses need to consider while driving productivity.
“The first one is we talk to them is to update to LTE and you might think that seems odd in a world where you know half of the world is still in lockdown. But the reality is when multiple people are working and learning from home, we have all probably felt herself that Wi-Fi and bandwidth challenges are real. I specifically had to tell my kids to get off the Xbox so I could do this call tonight and not have any issues with video, so that’s real, right? And then people are working outside of traditional office buildings and workspaces, and Wi-Fi access can be super inconsistent,” she said.
But if you think LTE is the solution to all your work from home needs, then you may be mistaken. The biggest challenge with remote working is with data security. “It is always around security and specifically as we talk about the Pro Line, the need to keep data retention with removable SSD is always top of mind and super important for our customers, especially in financial services and government. You know that we have that feature with Surface Pro X Anne with laptop 3 and now we’re so excited to bring that to the Surface Pro 7 plus lineup,” she stressed.
Apart from consistent connectivity and data security, Myers talked about streamlined workflow, “Businesses need a more streamlined workflow to easily get devices to their employees no matter where they are, which is what we’re delivering with our commercial packaging,” she added.
Myers stressed on these three parameters to make work from anywhere easier and more productive for employees and she feels the new Surface lineup for businesses can deliver these, that is if your office decides to upgrade your PC.
