Have you enjoyed the Hotel Transylvania animated movies? Yup, the same ones where Dracula and other horror icons from folklore were metamorphosed into cute misfits, trying to come to terms with everyday issues like you and I. Well, if you’re a fan of those films, then you’ll definitely like the spin-off short film that the team has just dropped, titled Monster Pets — A Hotel Transylvania Short Film, revolving around Dracula’s pet pup, Tinkles, who wants nothing more but to play fetch with his master, but Drac is too busy with other jobs to allocate some time for his monstrous fur-baby. So, he decides to find him another pet companion, but it’s not as easy as it sounds.
As a short film, Monster Pets scores on its length (just over 5 minutes) and the fun quotient packaged within tits miniscule time frame. The animation is top-notch, but that’s expected from Sony Pictures. Where the Hotel Transylvania spin-off really works is in how it adorable it makes Tinkles and Dracula’s bond as also in how much of a task it is too find the right playmate for your pet, particularly when you’re dealing with the monstrous kind. There’s a lot of energy and entertainment woven into these themes, and, thankfully, the short never overstays its welcome.
