After making her Bollywood debut in Garam Masala opposite Akshay Kumar and John Abraham, Neetu Chandra has struggled to pave her way in the industry. She has been away from the showbiz for quite a while now. She has been a part of movies such as Traffic Signal and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! But not many might know this, but Neetu has been removed from six films in the past. She has now revealed that she was removed and replaced by Kangana Ranaut in Tanu Weds Manu on R Madhavan‘s recommendation.
Recalling a comment made by Madhavan in the past, wherein he claimed that he had recommended Kangana’s name for Tanu Weds Manu, Neetu told Bollywood Hungama, “I’m talking about Madhavan. He said, ‘There was another actress who was signed for Tanu Weds Manu, but I recommended Kangana’s name’. That actress was me, the one who had signed Tanu Weds Manu earlier.”
She further added, “These kinds of things kept happening. I was removed from six movies in the past. No one would pick up the phone and call me. Neetu had to (make calls) for Neetu. But this is the journey, and this is how I had to learn things.”
When Neetu was asked why she did not continue on the film when she was signed for the project, she replied, “How do you continue? Do you think it depends on me if I want to continue the project? For any reason, if the director thinks that the hero is recommending somebody else… I don’t come from the sort of background where I can (stand my ground). I’m helpless.”
However, after that has transpired, Neetu said that she hold no grudges towards anyone. She also revealed that she was in talks with director Aanand L Rai for a film but unfortunately, even that didn’t pan out.
On the work front, Neetu will be seen in her upcoming Hollywood film, Never Back Down: Revolt. Directed by Kellie Madison, the film is the fourth instalment in the Never Back Down franchiose. The first film had released in 2008. The new sequel revolves around a woman who is kidnapped and forced to compete in elite underground fights and has to battle her way out to freedom. The role came to her after the makers learnt that she is an actor who is also a blackbelt 4th Dan in Taekwondo. The film also stars Olivia Popica and Diana Hoyos.
