Vinod Mehra‘s daughter Soniya, who recently clarified that she has not quit Bollywood, opened up on the closeness between her father and evergreen actress Rekha. While the actress revealed that she has got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Kunal, when asked that which of her father films, she would play the lead role, it it gets remade, Soniya told E Times, “I would love to do the remakes of Ghar and The Burning Train.”
While Rekha was the lead actress of Ghar, when questioned to Soniya that whether she ever the met actress, to which she answered, , “Yes, I have had the privilege of met Rekhaji 3/4 times. We have bumped into each other in social functions. She is one of the most beautiful and interesting women I have ever met.” When asked that whether her father Vinod Mehra married Rekha as per the rumours, she replied, “I cannot comment on that question because I am not in the know. It was all before I was even born (Vinod Mehra passed away when Soniya was just one-and-half year old). Frankly, I also don’t have a right to comment on it as it is their life. As far as I am concerned, they were just close and dear friends.”
When asked that whether she never got tempted to ask the question about Vinod Mehra and Rekha’s marriage to her mother Mrs Kiran Mehra, to which she said, “Honestly no, I haven’t felt that way. Everyone has a past and his/her own journey. It’s not my place to judge or enquire. If it’s something important, I will be told.” Vinod Mehra and Rekha worked together in films like Ghar (1978) and Bindiya Chamkegi (1984). The Khuddar actor passed away on October 30, 1990 following complications after a heart attack.
