With about 456 participants, risking their lives to win a lump sum of money, there are 7 games in total, at the end of which only one will survive and win. However, the stakes are high, so much so that it can cost one’s life.
The list of games include, Red Light Green Light, the first game played in the very first episode of Squid Game, the Honeycomb challenge, Tug-of-War,, The Midnight Riot, Marbles, Glass Stepping Stones and finally the Squid Game itself.
Park Hae Soo and HoYeon Jung reveal the most difficult game to film
In an interview, Squid game lead actors Park Hae Soo (character name Cho Sang-Woo) and HoYeon Jung (character name Kang Sae-byeok) talk about their most favourite and difficult game to shoot in the series.
While ‘marbles’ was the most difficult game for HoYeon Jung to shoot due to the number of emotions involved, Park Hae Soo says that his favourite was the ‘Tug-of-War’. Jung later reveals how amused the cast was looking at their ‘ugly’ expressions. However, in the end, the shot came out really cool, says the 27-year-old.
The Tug-Of-War challenge was all about the strategic trick!
So what was so special about the Tug-of-War challenge? Surely physical strength played an important role in winning the task, but it was Il-Nam’s (001) strategy that led them to a win. He explains to his teammates how it was not only about strength and agility, but also about balance. That said, the old man led his team to follow a systematic pattern of leaning and pulling, which although risky, helped them win the challenge.
Teamwork played a crucial role
A Tug-of-War is all about teamwork. Without the collective effort of each and everyone in Seong Gi-Hun’s team, winning the challenge was next to impossible.
Physically, they had already lost the game, given the opponent team was a strong, well built, all men team. Whereas on the other hand, Seong Gi-Hun’s team consisted of a frail old man, women and just a few physically fit men.
That said, apart from the physical and mental endurance, teamwork is also what prompted them to the next level.
Tug-of-war can improve leg and arm strength, targets different muscle groups
Well, considering the buzz around the games, especially something like the ‘tug-of-war’ that is played universally, all around the world, it is natural to want to know how it could help us.
As is known, a round of tug-of-war can demand a lot from your arms and your legs. It is an excellent upper body exercise that targets different muscles around your chest, shoulders, forearms, and core. It works your arms and your legs and improves strength.
Tug-of-war is a great team sport that also helps burn maximum calories. Given that it makes your muscles work, it demands your body to burn calories for energy.
A pure stress-buster
A tug-of-war challenge helps release a lot of stress. While multiple emotions are in play including the will to win, the enthusiasm helps people shed all their stress in the form of energy, leaving everyone relaxed in the end. But surely, a win would be the perfect cherry on the top!
It is also a great sport for bonding
Apart from the health benefits, tug-of-war can also improve relationships, facilitate bonding.
Since a number of people are involved, there needs to be some sense of understanding and synchronization between every one of teammates. That said, interaction is key and therefore, it makes for a great team sport.
